This proprietary technique permits visualization of multiple functional effects of drugs in living cells, effects which are rapidly quantified by flow cytometry. It was developed by one of NDI’s partner companies, Fluofarma, which is based at the European Institute of Chemistry and Biology (IECB). The technique utilizes recombinant fluorescent proteins stably expressed in cell lines or transgenic animals; these markers are linked to specific biological events of interest. In this way, lead selection and target validation can be accelerated by measuring multiple functional effects of a drug early in the development process.
